Ada Time Trial Results - August 22, 2022

Let there be blood -

A dedicated assemblage of riders decided to enter the fighting ring tonight and go toe to toe to garner solidity to their current position, or to assume the glorious role of the usurper in the points contest. Eric Hansen did his job in marking his rival, Jack Wright, at 30 seconds on the road ahead of him to not only catch Jack, but to pass him on the course. Now that's what I call keeping your "eye on the prize". The gloves were bloodied, but in the end, both gained 2 points, and so the margin of the difference between 3rd and 4th place in the Men 65+ category stayed the same at 2 points. Eric had thought he had the season in the bag until I told him the points contest will continue and end next week. His prize is tantalizingly close, but he still has some work to do to retain that 3rd place spot. If Jack beats Eric next week by a couple of positions, then the tables could be turned. As they left the parking lot tonight, I believe I saw Jack looking for some stimulants at the drug store, and Eric heading out to the local voodoo emporium. Dave Kuilema has a solid hold on 1st, and Chuck Damon should have little trouble holding onto 2nd. That is, if Eric's voodoo curses are not overly indiscriminate.

So besides the Men 65+ category, next week we will be awarding prizes to 4 other categories which had enough riders and accumulated enough points to have a contest. They are the Burton, Merckx, Men-Open, and Women-Open. Of those, only the Women-Open category has a chance of any change in standings next week. If Jill Martinek gets her 10th ride in, then she'll have lower points than Carol Homann and therefore take 2nd place, Carol to 3rd place. For the other 3 categories, it appears mathematically impossible for anyone to replace the top 3 spots that we already have.

For all the rest of you that have no snowball's chance in you-know-what to win a points contest, or your spot is already secure, use next week as a "FUN" night, and bring out a bike you hardly ride, or consider doing a 2, 3 or 4 person team ride. It's a great fun way to celebrate the end of the year.

Remember we have free pizza at Vitale's Restaurant in Ada starting at 7:30 for all riders, volunteers, and guests with drinks on your own, and an awards ceremony soon after.  If for some reason the time trial is rained out, we will still have our pizza party at the same time.
